Instant Toilets & Showers (IT&S) were proud to be chosen as the sole supplier for all CHOGM events recently held in Perth, Western Australia. CHOGM - the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was by far the largest and most prestegious event to showcase Perth this decade. CHOGM events consisted of a series of free 'festivals' held on both the Esplanade and Sir James Mitchell park in South Perth along with VIP events in Kings Park and Cottesloe and the grand finale event being the 'Great Aussie BBQ' held on the Esplanade in Perth. The Great Aussie BBQ was attended by more than 100,000 people and we were there to make sure it was a success.
The Queen has congratulated Premier Colin Barnett and the West Australian public for "a most successful" CHOGM during a speech at the Big Aussie BBQ.
"You have endeared yourselves to the international Commonwealth, showing them a state of professional excellence, generosity and good will," she told tens of thousands of people who flocked to the Perth foreshore.
"I can think of no more fitting way to end my visit here than in this idyllic Swan River setting which I have enjoyed on so many occasions." said Her Majesty. "Once again we will return to the UK with fond memories of our time here and the warm Australian welcome received on our 16th visit to this beautiful country."
More than 100,000 people packed The Esplanade, Langley Park and the Supreme Court Gardens, creating a unique scene of Australian flags, sausage sizzles and thongs. The Esplanade was closed by 9.30am and new arrivals were told to go to Langley Park or the Supreme Court Gardens, where large screens are relaying all the entertainment. About 120,000 sausages and 1500 litres of tomato sauce were be served between 9am and 12pm, although due to protocol the Queen did not join in the feast.
The barbecue was a gift from the state government to thank the public for its patience during the week-long CHOGM schedule.
Behind the scenes IT&S were involved with the supply of over 300 toilets for the parade route and Great Aussie BBQ alone. Not to mention the backstage infrastructure of transportable site offices, lunch rooms and commentary booths. IT&S also supplied ancillary equipment and services including water tanks, pumps and all onsite waste removal services to ensure each of the events ran smoothly.
