The correct placement of toilets at any event will ensure that your guests can not only find them but that the number of toilets will be able to handle the demand placed upon them.  So how does the positioning and placement of the toilets matter you ask?

Why you need to understand the importance of placement....

Positioning the toilets in the correct spot on any event site is vitally important to the success of their use by your guests.  At Instant Toilets & Showers we take the time to analyse and monitor the useage of our products during events.  From our research we've learnt some valuable lessons on what should and shouldnt be done when it comes to the positioning of toilets at an event.

Here's our list of things to consider when laying out your event site.

Place toilets in a single location

Guests readily identify where toilets are located and will walk the distance if required.

Position toilets away from food or beverage areas

For asthetics and comfort of your guests dont position toilets next to food or beverage outlet areas within your venue.

Don't place toilets in multiple locations throughout a venue

Unless your venue is extremely large, toilets should NOT be placed in multiple locations.  When toilets are placed in multiple locations you cant control how many people will use the toilets at each location. This can result in toilets reaching their capacity well before others that may not be getting the same amount of use.  This can look bad for the event.

Position toilets in straight lines

Seems bizzare right? ... but, one thing we've learnt is that for queing and access reasons you need to keep toilets in straight lines wherever possible.   One event organiser placed toilets in a U-shape configuration and whilst we were at the event watching we saw that people couldnt easily access all of the toilets and many couldnt see the indicators on the toilet doors because they stood at the entry to the U shape layout instead of walking down and standing infront of each toilet door.  Keeping toilets in straight lines allows people to que infront of each toilet door waiting for their turn.

Servicing vehicle access

Does your event run for multiple days or will a servicing vehicle need to access the toilets during your event?   If so, then you must allow for access to/from the toilets for servicing vehicles.   If a servicing vehicle needs to access the toilets whilst your event is running then this requires careful planning to ensure minimal disruption to your event.  Ideally, toilets should be located against fences or external boundaries where a service truck can access them from the outside of your venue.    Driving service vehicles inside a venue during an event is difficult and unsightly.  This should always be considered as a last resort if careful planning can't avoid it.
